This policy outlines our stance against any illegal or unethical behaviours that contravene UK or California law. By defining clear boundaries and providing examples of prohibited conduct, we ensure that all community members are aware of our expectations and their responsibilities.
Examples of Unacceptable Behaviour
To clarify our expectations, here are ten examples of behaviour that are considered unacceptable and will result in disciplinary action:
- Unauthorised Access: Attempting to gain unauthorised access to any computer systems or networks (commonly known as hacking).
- Distribution of Malware: Creating, distributing, or promoting software intended to harm or exploit another user’s system, such as viruses, worms, or Trojan horses.
- Exploitation of Vulnerabilities: Sharing or exploiting knowledge of vulnerabilities in software or systems without the consent of the owner or outside of an authorized testing framework.
- (D)DoS Attacks: Participating in or coordinating (Distributed) Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks.
- Phishing: Engaging in attempts to acquire sensitive information such as usernames, passwords, or credit card details by masquerading as a trustworthy entity in electronic communications.
- Sale of Illegal Services: Offering or promoting services that involve breaching cybersecurity laws, such as selling exploits or hacked accounts.
- Data Breach Involvement: Participating in, encouraging, or concealing a data breach.
- Insider Threats: Misusing privileged access to information or systems for unauthorised purposes.
- Intellectual Property Theft (Piracy): Unauthorised copying, distribution, or use of software, data, or content that is protected by intellectual property laws.
- Crypto jacking: Using someone else’s computer resources without their knowledge to mine cryptocurrency.
Enforcement and Monitoring
Consequences
Violations of this policy will be met with appropriate disciplinary actions, which may include:
- Immediate removal of offending content.
- Verbal warning and a reminder of our community rules upon first infraction.
- On second infraction, the offender will be banned from the community.
